The next Harrogate Chamber
of Trade & Commerce meeting will take place on 20th June 2011 at the Barceló
Majestic Hotel on Ripon Road, Harrogate commencing with networking over
refreshments from 17.30. The meeting is open to the owners of
any recently formed or potential new businesses in Harrogate who are
welcome as guests if they pre-register with the Chamber Secretariat (see
below).
The topic for the
presentations is “How to succeed starting and growing a new business”
with the main speaker being Janet Kettlewell of Kettlewell Fuels Ltd,
winners of the Best Small Company of the Year Award in this year’s Ackrill
Media Group’s Business Awards.
This award was for smaller
businesses that could demonstrate dynamism, commitment to growth and success
in achieving planned objectives and demonstrate a clearly defined vision for
developing and growing the business. Janet will be talking about Kettlewell
Fuels’ road to the successful company it is today, as one of the last
independent fuel oil distributors in the Yorkshire Dales, helping families
heat their homes and providing local farmers with a responsive and reliable
delivery service. This family company has grown from a two vehicle operation
to a six vehicle operation since 1987 seeing a 20% growth in business in
2010.
Other speakers at the
meeting will include Alison Dewhurst of Shooligans Harrogate & Ripon, who
recently won Kids Independent Retailer of the Year in the Drapers’ Footwear
Awards, plus Don Cartlidge of Business Link Yorkshire, outlining the support
new and growing businesses can still obtain from the organisation. We are
also hoping to have a local bank representative to talk about the best way
to raise finance to start and/or grow your business, but this has yet to be
confirmed.
The meeting will end around
20.00 when the expected 70+ attendees can retire to the hotel’s bar to
continue discussions with people they met earlier in the evening.
This particular Harrogate
Chamber meeting is not only for our members, but it is also aimed at new and
growing businesses in Harrogate who are invited to come along to and find
out more about what is on offer to businesses to help them succeed,
particularly in the current climate. To book a place please fax 01423
