  The switch on of Harrogate’s Christmas lights
was on Thursday 17 November at the Victoria Centre Piazza, Station
Parade, Harrogate. St Aidan’s School Brass Band and Chamber Choir will started
the celebrations, which were be hosted by Stray FM.
The crowd was entertained by young local performers “Disctracted” who are a popular duo singing group made up of
two sisters, Emily and Danielle Atkinson, age 12 and 11. They have been
professionally singing and performing together since 2009. They sing many
different music genres, but mainly love to perform Pop and Indie Rock. As
well as singing well known
and popular covers, they write their own songs and music and now have a
number of their original songs on iTunes, Facebook and YouTube.
They were joined by a very talented local musician Youcef Preston, popular with teenagers,
should attract a crowd through his Facebook followers.
Harrogate Theatre and the cast of Beauty & the Beast also entertained the
audience.
Father Christmas is made a very special visit to help the Mayor of
Harrogate turn on this year’s lights at 18.00.
This as followed by a procession from Victoria Shopping Centre
Piazza to the Wesley Chapel on Oxford Street for a Carol Service.
LIGHTING AROUND THE DISTRICT
All of the Market Towns in the Harrogate
District will be ablaze with Christmas Lights this year thanks to the
voluntary efforts of the local Chambers or Business Associations in
conjunction with their local Council, supported financially by Harrogate
Borough Council on a proportionate basis.
